Karenni Student Development Programme

The Wider World Group has been supporting Karenni Student Development Programme (KSDP) for several years, providing educational and housing support to Karenni students in the refugee camps on the Burma/Thai border. Within Karenni State, Burma, KSDP provides funding for several students to complete their schooling and also supports and funds healthcare for the people and education for mobile medical teams who travel to remote villages where there are no state-funded medical facilities.  One of the former KSDP students came to England where she was granted asylum and then gained a nursing degree.  She now divides her time between working in the NHS in the UK and working in Karenni where she helps to run the Karenni Mobile Health Service, assisting with the training of new medics and visiting remote clinics.

KSDP’s motto is to “Help the Karenni to Help Themselves” and the charity which operates with minimum administrative costs adheres to this principal by ensuring that all projects are run by the Karenni people with assistance and funding from KSDP.
